Babson Men Claim First NEWMAC Presidents Cup
WESTWOOD, Mass.— Babson College claimed three regular season titles and a trio
WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College claimed three regular season titles and a trio of conference tournament championships on the way to finishing atop the 2023 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Presidents Cup standings for the first time in department history in an announcement made on Thursday morning.
The Presidents Cup is an all-sports award presented to the top overall men's and women's programs in the conference and is determined using a weighted points system based on the order of finish during both the regular season and championship play.
"Earning the NEWMAC Presidents Cup Award is a testament to the incredible talent, hard work, and unwavering commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, and training staff," said Stephen Spinelli Jr. MBA'92, PhD, president of Babson College. Our athletics programs embody the spirit of entrepreneurial leadership, showcasing the values of collaboration, agility, and teamwork. These qualities, which are vital to success on and off the field, are ingrained in the core characteristics of our student-athletes and reflect their outstanding achievements."
Coming off a second-place showing in 2022, the Beavers recorded a department-best 9.45 points to finish more than a point ahead of second-place MIT (8.42). WPI (8.00) came in third for the second year in a row, while Springfield College (7.38) and Wheaton College (6.48) rounded out the top five.
Soccer and lacrosse both followed up regular season titles by capturing conference tournament championships, while tennis claimed its second regular season title in three seasons and advanced to the tournament final. Additionally, basketball earned back-to-back road victories to secure its first NEWMAC Tournament championship since 2016.
Along with their regular season and tournament crowns, baseball came in second and reached the conference championship game and cross country, swimming & diving and track & field all produced some of the top finishes in league history. Cross country placed third and matched the program's lowest point total in the NEWMAC era, swimming & diving recorded its best conference finish since 2002 by coming in third, and track & field posted its highest point total in school history on the way to finishing fourth the third consecutive season.

Lacrosse, which earned the program's first win and advanced to the third round, basketball and soccer all participated in the NCAA Tournament, while cross country and track & field both send individuals to their respective national championships.
