Community Briefs: Conservative Wilson Women to meet

The Conservative Wilson Women will meet at noon Wednesday, June 7, at the Republican Museum of North Carolina, 2000 Nash St., Suite B.

Agribusiness group plans meeting

The Wilson AgriBusiness Committee will meet at noon Wednesday, June 7, at Parker's Barbecue. Jeff Chandler, research coordinator with the N.C. Soybean Producers Association, will provide an update on the organization's activities.

The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month from January through October and provides informative programs related to agriculture and Wilson. All who are interested are invited to attend. Committee leaders have canceled the group's July meeting, which was previously scheduled for Wednesday, July 5.

Church schedules vacation Bible school

ELM CITY — Elm City Methodist Church, 106 N. Parker St., will hold vacation Bible school for children 3 years old to eighth grade from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11 through Thursday, June 15.

Participating children will be served dinner at 6 p.m. each day. The VBS features Bible stories, crafts, recreation, music and a pony ministry, with all activities supervised by adults.

Families can visit www.elmcitymc.com to register their children online or sign up on-site starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 11 and Monday, June 12.

Family reunion begins June 30

The Atkinson, Battle and Farmer Family Reunion is scheduled for Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1, with events planned at two locations in Wilson.

A fish fry with fun and games will be held at 6 p.m. June 30 at the Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church family center. The following day, relatives will assemble at 9 a.m. for a family basketball game at the Wilson Recreation Center. A family gathering is planned for 1 p.m. that day at the Wilson Chapel family center.

Admission fee for the reunion weekend is $30 for singles and $60 for families. For more information, contact Sherry Danzy at 252-674-8331 or [email protected].

Art show open through August

The Wilson Active Artists Association's new art show, "Summer Travels/Summer Delights," features the work of 17 local artists. Visitors can see the show at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, 108 Nash St., from noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Saturday, Aug. 26.

A special exhibit, "Photographers of the Future," created by middle school students who attend the Foundation YMCA's after-school program, also is on display.
