Haith, McClain and Chappell to serve as assistant coaches and Ogden tabbed General Manager.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Head Men's Basketball Coach Rodney Terry has hired Frank Haith as Assistant Coach and elevated Steve McClain to Assistant Coach in addition to naming Chris Ogden as General Manager. Brandon Chappell will begin his second season as Assistant Coach. The staff has a combined 35 years of head coaching experience at the Division I level.

Frank Haith brings 34 years of coaching experience to the Texas staff, including 18 combined seasons as a Division I head coach at Miami (Fla.), Missouri and Tulsa. Haith returns to Austin in his second stint as Assistant Coach, as he previously served as an assistant at Texas under Rick Barnes for three seasons from 2001-02 through 2003-04. During his three years in Austin, Haith helped the Longhorns register an overall record of 73-27 (.730), including a 35-13 (.729) mark in Big 12 Conference play. Texas advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in both 2001-02 and 2003-04 and made a run to the NCAA Final Four in 2002-03, the school's first trip to the Final Four since 1947. Haith helped recruit and/or develop six UT players who went on to play in the NBA, including Chris Owens, T.J. Ford, Royal Ivey, LaMarcus Aldridge, P.J. Tucker and Daniel Gibson.

In 18 seasons as a Division I head coach, Haith posted a career record of 343-237 (.591). He guided 10 of those teams to postseason play, including four NCAA Tournament appearances. Haith served as head coach at Miami (Fla.) for seven seasons (2004-11), Missouri for three years (2011-14) and Tulsa for eight seasons (2014-22). He was named the National Coach of the Year by The Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) in 2012 while at Missouri, and he also was a National Coach of the Year finalist in 2005 during his time at Miami. Prior to returning to Texas, Haith served as an assistant coach under Penny Hardaway at the University of Memphis during the 2022-23 season.

Steve McClain moves into the role of Assistant Coach after serving as Special Assistant to the Head Coach last season. McClain brings 41 years of coaching experience to the Texas staff, including 14 combined seasons as a head coach at Wyoming and Illinois-Chicago. Prior to coming to Austin before the 2022-23 season, he worked for two years (2020-22) as an assistant under Tom Crean at Georgia.

McClain spent five seasons as the head coach at UIC (2015-20) and nine years as the head coach at Wyoming (1998-2007). He also served as an assistant at Indiana (2010-15), Colorado (2007-10) and TCU (1994-98). McClain spent 10 seasons at the junior college level, including three as the head coach at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College where he led the team to the 1994 NJCAA National Championship and earned National Coach of the Year honors.

Brandon Chappell begins his second season as Assistant Coach with the Longhorns. Chappell brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Texas staff. Prior to coming to Austin before the 2022-23 season, he worked for one year (2021-22) as an assistant under Kevin Kruger at UNLV. Chappell also spent four seasons (2017-21) at Lamar, one year (2016-17) at Arkansas-Fort Smith, two seasons (2014-16) at Northern Arizona and one year (2013-14) at Armstrong State.

Chris Ogden moves into the role of General Manager after serving as Assistant Coach beginning in early January through the end of the team's postseason run to the NCAA Elite Eight. He was in his second season as Managing Director of Men's Basketball prior to being named Assistant Coach. A former Texas player and assistant coach who spent three years as the head coach at UTA, Ogden will begin his 15th year on the UT staff. He brings 20 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Texas staff.

Ogden played a huge role in the creation of a true home court advantage in the first year of Moody Center, the $375 million world-class arena located on campus that opened in April 2022. Texas played in front of a sellout crowd in all 17 contests (16-1 record) in Moody Center and averaged 10,965 fans per game during the 2022-23 season. The arena's official capacity is 10,763 but there is a standing-room only area in the upper concourse for Texas students used as overflow for the Corral, the official UT student section which surrounds 270-degrees of the court.

Texas completed the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 29-9 (12-6 Big 12, second) and ranked No. 5 in the final Associated Press poll and No. 7 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll. The No. 5 spot marked a tie for the highest ranking in the final AP poll by the Longhorns, as UT also was No. 5 in the final AP poll during the 2002-03 Final Four season. The No. 7 spot marked the third-highest ranking in the final Coaches poll in program history and highest since a No. 5 ranking following the 2007-08 season.

The Longhorns advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 2008 and eighth time in program history. UT captured its second Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship title in program history, defeating No. 3 Kansas, 76-56, in the championship game in Kansas City, Mo. The Longhorns earned a No. 2 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, marking the highest seed for Texas in the NCAA tourney since 2008 (also a No. 2 seed).

The 29 wins were the third-most in a single season in program history, as UT went 31-7 in 2007-08 and 30-7 in 2005-06. The Longhorns compiled a 10-7 record against AP Top 25 opponents in 2022-23, and the 10 wins were the most in the nation against AP-ranked foes. The 10 wins against AP-ranked opponents also set a school single-season record, as UT previously went 8-5 in 2003-04. Texas posted a 6-3 mark against AP Top 11 foes during the 2022-23 season and tied a program single-season record for most games played (38). UT began the year at No. 12 in the preseason AP poll and spent all 19 weeks of the poll in the top 12, including 17 consecutive weeks in the top 10. That marked the longest such stretch since Texas was in the top 10 for all 19 polls during the 2002-03 Final Four season.

The Longhorns were one of three teams to rank in the top 15 in KenPom in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency. Texas (15 offense, 13 defense) was joined by UConn (3 offense, 7 defense) and Houston (11 offense, 5 defense). Since the Big 12 moved to an 18-game round-robin schedule starting in the 2011-12 season, Texas reached the 12-win mark for the first time in league play (12-6 record). Seventeen of UT's 29 victories during the 2022-23 season were by at least 10 points.
