Finding the right T-shirt for teeing up can majorly impact your golf game. While golf dress codes are somewhat more relaxed for women than for men — it's not always required to tuck your shirt, and collared, sleeveless tops are allowed — it's still crucial to look polished on the course or at the club.

Comfort is key when shopping for a golf shirt, as you want to be able to focus on your game. Performance materials like moisture-wicking fabrics with built-in sun protection help you stay on par in even the hottest conditions and should keep you looking and feeling as good on the 19th hole as when you started out.

Here, we’ve rounded up the best women's golf shirts on the market for every style, from zippered polos to retro-inspired long-sleeve tops.

Athleta

Grippers on the hem keep this lightweight and flattering polo in place — plus, the material is moisture-wicking and boasts UPF 50+ sun protection.

The material is thin, which makes it a particularly great choice for warmer weather.

A flattering, form-fitting take on the classic golf polo, Athleta's Momentum Seamless Top stands out from the rest thanks to its superior sun protection and stunning silhouette. It boasts UPF 50+, which means that less than 2 percent of UV rays can penetrate the material (but that doesn't mean you should skip the sunscreen!). The top is lightweight and breathable, so air can circulate easily while you work up a sweat on the golf course. The moisture-wicking technology also works to keep you cool, while odor-resistant antimicrobial material minimizes any unpleasant smells.

What we love most about this top is the grippers on the hem that ensure it stays in place even in peak performance mode. The anti-chafe material feels smooth against your skin and won't wrinkle or bunch when you lift your arms, which makes it easier than ever to focus on stress-free swings. The top is particularly great for warmer weather due to its lightweight material — it's thin without being sheer. If you’re looking for something with a more substantial handfeel, keep reading for other options.

G/Fore

It comes in vibrant colors that will stand out on the course, and the lightweight material won't overheat you.

The collar is soft and flexible rather than starchy and stiff, which may feel too relaxed for certain tastes.

This ultra-chic top looks and feels as good on the course as it does over a glass of rosé at the 19th hole. Inspired by ‘70s fashion, it manages to feel both retro and timeless and is available in uniquely vibrant shades of red, light blue, and pale yellow that are sure to garner you some envious double-takes on the course. While it's nearly twice the price of other long-sleeve polo options that we considered, it earned a spot for its eye-catching aesthetic and long-lasting quality. Made from a silky soft nylon and elastane blend, the shirt features four-way stretch and is designed to keep you cool thanks to lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric — plus, it boasts UV protection and breathability. Crucially, it's machine-washable, so there's no need to feel precious about the decorative heat-sealed taping along the zipper and collar.

Amazon

It strikes a just-right fit-balance between form-fitting and relaxed — and it's available in 18 colors.

It features a button closure rather than a zip, which may feel fussy for some.

This is the quintessential golf polo. Callaway is one of the leading brands in high-quality functional and affordable golfwear, and this top is proof of why. With sweat-wicking technology designed to keep you cool as you navigate even the toughest terrain, it makes golfing a breeze. The brand's proprietary Swing Tech seams offer enough stretch to help you play your best game. The shirt is on the shorter side, so it's up to you to tuck it in or wear it loose (which is typically up to personal discretion for women on the golf course, unlike for men). The best part? It's available in a whopping 18 colors — everything from classic white to a peachy pink, olive green, sea blue, and more — so you’re sure to find something to suit your style.

Dick's Sporting Goods

It's made from recycled materials and features a special cooling technology that helps keep you sweat-free.

It doesn't offer UV protection.

It's hard to beat Adidas’ brrr° Triple Chill Effect technology, which unites cooling minerals, quick-drying fabric, and moisture-wicking fibers to keep you feeling fresh after a round of 18 holes. This sleeveless polo is so comfortable (and dries so quickly) that you won't want to take it off — it feels like soft cotton and is crafted from a stretchy, double-knit material that's made of over 70 percent of recycled materials. The scoop hemline is a major plus too, as it's long enough to tuck in or to keep you covered when swinging — plus, it's a little longer in the back for extra coverage. While it doesn't offer any UV protection, you can always go heavy on the sunscreen.

The super soft jersey fabric makes this one of the most comfortable golf shirts on the market.

The six-button placket requires some dexterity.

Three-quarter sleeve shirts are the best of both worlds: they offer additional coverage and sun protection but can be easily rolled up, and they don't compromise your ability to use your hands the way longer sleeves can. Callaway's Space Dye Golf Polo is one of the softest around, thanks to a blend of polyester, recycled polyester, and elastane that feels like a second skin without being constricting. The shirt boasts UPF 50 sun protection, and the sleeve length is both flattering and convenient — no need to worry about long sleeves dangling when you’re bending down to scoop up your ball. The six-button placket allows for a custom amount of neck coverage and breathability, but requires more attention than an easy zip closure.

Peter Millar

Moisture-wicking, UPF 50+ material makes this the perfect companion for a long day at the driving range or on the golf course.

The tape accent draws attention to the zipper rather than camouflaging it as certain plackets do.

Zippered polos offer convenience when it comes to adjusting the amount of coverage you want; wear it unzipped for a more relaxed fit or zipped up to accentuate the flat-knit collar. Peter Millar's signature Chrissie Polo is streamlined and flattering, crafted from a four-way stretch polyester blend that boasts UPF 50+ sun protection, plus moisture-wicking and odor-repellent fabric to help you feel as good on the back nine as you did at the start. The quarter zip closure is smooth and heat sealed with a tape accent, which adds a bit of flair to the straightforward polo look.

L'Etoile

The perforated design maximizes breathability and adds to the overall aesthetic of this chic striped top.

It's sheer, so you’ll need to layer it with either a sports bra or a tank top underneath depending on the course dress code.

L’Étoile Sport makes luxury golf apparel that's meant to blend seamlessly with your day-to-day wardrobe — pieces that you can wear straight from the golf course to lunch at the country club. This pointelle-knitted top is body-skimming and supremely soft, thanks to a blend of nylon and spandex Italian yarn. The perforated design and featherweight fabric make this an easy, breezy piece for your hottest days on the course — or anything else you’ve got planned. It is very sheer, so consider this as more of a layer over either a sports bra, golf dress or tank top, depending on your style and your golf course's dress code. Note that while it's machine-washable, it should be dried flat or dry cleaned.

Athleta

This quick-drying polo also boasts sun protection and odor resistance.

It's semi-fitted, so it's more likely to ride up than a form-fitting design.

Athleta's Advantage Polo Tee is an elevated classic that ticks every box: it's quick-drying, breathable, and features built-in UV protection. The recycled polyester and spandex blend is semi-fitted, which is great for those looking to avoid traditionally tighter styles but may lead to a less streamlined silhouette. The material is also impressively quick-drying, meaning you can work up a sweat on the golf course and it will wick away the excess moisture as you move. Available in sizes XXS to 3X, this size-inclusive line is crafted with an odor-resistance yarn that keeps you smelling fresh no matter what.

Nike

This super sweat-resistant top features an extra-long placket that allows for even more air flow.

The Nike swoosh logo is very prominent, which may not be for everyone.

When it comes to performance gear, Nike always stands out for its high-quality materials. This top is part of their Move to Zero campaign, which is the brand's push to use more sustainable materials in an effort to achieve zero waste. Made from 100 percent polyester, the short-sleeved shirt is extremely quick drying and boasts an advanced moisture-wicking technology that pulls sweat away from the skin, so you can keep your head in the game. Its wrinkle-resistant standard fit also improves breathability. The extended five-button placket features a stylish flap that conceals the bottom four buttons, allowing for a customizable amount of neck coverage and air flow.

Beyond offering the highest sun protection available, the proprietary Active Athlon fabric blend is moisture-wicking and breathable.

It has a longer hem and a body-skimming fit that can make it difficult to tuck in.

Coolibar's Prestwick Golf Polo boasts UPF 50+ for top-notch protection from UV rays — plus, extended long-sleeve coverage means you’re exposing minimal skin to the sun. The brand's fabrics have all been approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation as effective UV protectants — although it's still important to wear sunscreen as well. Made from a super-soft and quick-drying blend of polyester and spandex called Active Athlon, the shirt offers a good amount of stretch and is designed with Cooltect technology to maximize its moisture-wicking abilities. The side vents help with this too, as they increase air flow. It's also available in a wide range of sizes — just note that the relaxed fit and longer hem are not ideal for tucking in, as they’re prone to bunching.

Moisture-wicking fabric and UPF 50+ protection make this a high-performance piece at an unbeatable price.

The material is slightly coarse, and it's only available in two colors.

While there are plenty of comfortable and functional golf shirts at a mid-range price, this is one of the best value buys out there. The stretchy quick-dry fabric helps to keep you sweat-free on the course, and a UPF 50+ rating offers additional sun protection. The flattering piping elevates this from a simple basic, although some may prefer a more straightforward polo. Note that it's only available in pink and black, which is somewhat limiting depending on your style. The zip collar is easy to use and allows you to quickly adjust the amount of neck coverage you want.

To a degree, the right fit is a matter of personal preference: Do you prefer a form-fitting shirt with breathability or a standard fit that offers a bit more room? There's something on this list for everyone, but, primarily, you’ll want to opt for golf shirts that are regular or fitted. A good fit ensures that you’ll still look pulled together while feeling comfortable and dry, and, most importantly, that you’ll have enough mobility to utilize your full range of motion.

Breathable fabrics are key here: Polyester blends are crafted to allow for maximum air flow, which keeps you cool while working up a sweat. Side vents and adjustable collars are also great for finding your own unique level of breathability. Avoid too-fitted pieces that will constrict your movement and make it difficult for sweat to dry quickly.

Golf shirts tend to be made from synthetics rather than cotton or other everyday shirt materials, as they’re designed to wick away moisture and dry quickly while you’re on the course. They often feature other performance-driven aspects, like UPF protection and odor-minimizing antimicrobial fabrics.

Golf shirts also must adhere to the standard golf dress code. For men, that means collared shirts that must be tucked in. For women, the rules tend to be slightly more relaxed, with the option to wear your top untucked. Collars aren't required for women either, although they’re often encouraged at more exclusive clubs. Of course, dress codes vary among golf courses, so it's a good idea to check in with yours before you go.

Like with all articles of clothing, it's crucial to check the care label before laundering in order to maximize the lifespan of your pieces. While most golf shirts are machine-washable, it's best to wash them in cool water and to either tumble dry low or dry flat, depending on the material. For polyester blends, be sure to only wash them with other synthetic fabrics — this will help them to maintain their appearance for longer. In general, it's a good idea to wash them after every use, as you’ll likely have worked up a sweat over a long period of time.

Once dry, you can opt to hang or fold your golf shirts, as there are benefits to each. Hanging reduces wrinkles but can leave stretch marks in the shoulders, while folding can help keep the collar crisp.

For this story, T+L contributor Sophie Dodd researched every detail about women's golf shirts, from dress code requirements to which materials and high-performance fabrics to look for, plus which brands offer the most stylish designs.
